According to search engine optimisation specialist Ewan Watt, videos help online consumers make decisions.

He says “They spend more time on your website, which is a site quality indicator that will help boost your Google rankings as per the latest Panda [Google's search algorithm] update.”

Watt, who is director of Melbourne-based roi.com.au, says: “Google is watching what we do online across sites such as YouTube, so optimised videos help your website appear more popular for relevant key phrases, increasing your search engine rankings and traffic.”

Director of ROI.com.au, Ewan Watt, has been featured on Australia’s Financial Review as one of the nations most successful entrepreneurs of recent years.

After starting his fledgling internet marketing business in Melbourne in 2006, Ewan has grown a considerable enterprise which now employs over 40 employees at ROI.com.au’s head office in Surrey Hills, Victoria.

Ewan identified Google Places as one of the most important recent developments in search engine marketing, suggesting that businesses who adapt to the latest change in Google’s algorithm will experience significant wins in organic search engine traffic.

ROI.com.au has picked up some notable awards during it’s five year history, including:

Smart Company – 50 Fastest growing startups

BRW – Fast starters

While Ewan expects revenue for 2011 to surpass the $4 million mark, he admits that the year on year growth experienced by ROI.com.au will be difficult to maintain.

Following changes to the Google algorithm in November 2010, director of ROI.com.au, Ewan Watt, was asked by IT Wire how it will affect businesses in Australia.

Founder and Director of digital marketing company ROI.com.au, Ewan Watt was quoted by IT Wire following recent changes to Google’s search algorithm.

The changes, which will have a significant impact on Australian business, sees the search engine giant merge their local listings, known as Google Places, into organic search engine results.

For specific local searches Google now displays a map as part of it’s organic search results, with listed businesses relevant to the search query returned with a map listing.

The latest development typifies the dynamic nature of search engine marketing and demonstrates the need for businesses in Australia and around the globe to constantly adapt to new developments.

In the article, Ewan suggests that businesses competing on a local footing can no longer expect to enjoy traffic from local searches without adapting to the changes and registering a Google Places listing.

The online marketing landscape has changed once again and there is no doubt it will continue to do so. To read the article in full click here.

Ewan Watt Speaks To The Australian about Search Marketing

Ewan Watt, director of Australia’s leading performance-base search engine marketing company ROI.com.au, was quoted recently in The Australian – stressing the importance of tailoring search engine marketing strategies to meet the needs of web searchers.

Ewan stressed that customising your strategy to appeal to exactly how people search the internet is the best approach to ensuring that a website receives the most qualified search traffic – searchers that are further along the buying cycle and ready to commit to a purchase.

He insisted that measuring content should not be done solely through increases in traffic to a website – but instead through the length of time people spend viewing your website, and the number of sales leads you manage to generate through your site

“The more tailored and keyword centric your content; the more qualified website traffic you will receive. Good content should be measured by its impact on new traffic generation, sales lead generation and the amount of time people spend on your website,” Ewan remarked.
